Some SFI Approvals do have an expiration date. Time-limited parts will have a label that lists the expiration date. However, this does not mean the product is no longer good after that date. Some products can be inspected and recertified.

Which parts have an expiration date?

SFI standards, including recertification requirements, are frequently updated. For a complete, up-to-date list of SFI Specs and their recertification/inspection periods, follow this link:

How does Summit Racing handle time-limited SFI parts?

We review all time-limited SFI approved parts in our inventory monthly. We assign them a “shelf life” so you can get the most use from them. When the shelf life expires, we return the products to the manufacturer for recertification.

The table below shows our shelf life policy for SFI approved parts.

SFI Inspection/Recertification Period Summit Racing Shelf Life Minimum Usable Life of Your Product
1 year 4 months 8 months
2 years 4 months 1 year, 8 months
3 years 6 months 2 years, 6 months
5 years 9 months 4 years, 3 months

How do I get my products inspected and recertified?

The original manufacturer can inspect and certify the product for racing use. There is usually a fee associated with this service. For specific details about your products, please contact the manufacturer.

Notes

  • Summit Racing Equipment does not inspect or certify SFI approved parts.
  • We can not control the useful life of parts shipped directly to you from the manufacturer.
