If you machine or port and polish your Cylinder Heads, you need to measure them. The Combustion Chamber Volumes should all be equal. The Intake Runners need to  match each other too. The same goes for the Exhaust Runners. This will ensure consistent performance between cylinders.

To measure the head, you will need a Cylinder Head CC Kit.

Before you begin:

  • Mix the fluid.
    • 50/50 water and alcohol with a few drops of food coloring.
  • Install the valves and spark plugs.
  • Position the head in a horizontal position.
  • Seal the plate around the area to be measured.
    • Use a little grease to help seal the mating surfaces.

Procedure

  1. Fill the buret. (Note the EXACT amount of fluid.)
  2. Slowly fill the cavity through the small hole in the sealing plate.
    1. Fill to the bottom of the hole.
    2. Be careful not to spill.
    3. Make sure there are no air bubbles.
  3. Determine how much fluid was used to fill the area.

Starting Amount – Remaining Amount = Volume (in cc’s)

Notes

  • Use a turkey baster or a bulb syringe to suck the fluid out when you’re done.
  • Re-use the fluid as many times as needed.
